Acting for the Camera, his primary offering,
is taught on an ongoing basis.
There are two levels:
Professional, for the working actor, and
Mid-Level, for actors with experience and
training who have not yet
fully begun their careers in film and television.
The classes focus on scene study and exercises
designed to improve the actor's skills in acting
for the camera.
Scenes are played back on tape and critiqued
by M.K. Lewis alone, never by other students.
Mr. Lewis utililizes various acting techniques
depending on the need of the individual student,
as opposed to espousing a single method.
His teaching philosophy is similar to that of
Stella Adler, recognizing the actor as part of
the storytelling process.
Classes run from 7:30 to 10:30 p.m weekly.
One professional class meets on Mondays,
another on Tuesdays.
The mid-level class meets on Thursdays and is
taught by M.K. Lewis/Lawrence Mandley.
Auditing is permitted at no charge.
Class size is limited to 14.
Cold Reading & Interview Technique
is a 10-week workshop
featuring a step-by-step approach to auditions
and interviews with casting directors, agents,
producers and directors.
Film Technique
is a 10-week workshop focusing strictly on the
technical aspects of working in front of a camera,
such as matching, hitting marks, staying in frame, etc.
These classes, which alternate throughout the year,
meet on Wednesdays from 7:30 to 11 p.m.
Acting experience for either class can vary
from newcomer to professional.
Class size in both is limited to 10-12.
