ONGOING ACTING CLASSES

Professional

Mon. Eves. 7:30-10:30
or
Tues. Eves 7:30-10:30

A class for the working professional

WE CONCENTRATE ON:

Keeping the actor from getting stale or lazy
The working actor, because of the speed of
this industry, can easily get sloppy or mechanical.
We work on curing that.

Honing weaknesses and stretching the actor
making the overly-emotional actor think, the
overly-mental actor feel, getting rid of "bags of
tricks," honing camera technique (especially in
learning to draw the camera to you), etc.

Working fast and well
learning to do good work even under the most
extreme pressures of this industry.

WE DO THAT BY DOING:

Cold Readings
Done more to keep the actor sharp than anything
else. (not a substitute for a good cold reading class).

The 20-Minute Scene
When the student arrives he is given the new scene
and has approximately 20 minutes to learn it-
off book, ready to shoot. Any working actor who has been
on a set where they hand him new pages, telling him,
"We shoot in 20 minutes," will understand the value
of this exercise.

"Unprepared Scenes"
The actor comes to class ready to shoot without having
worked with a partner. The partner is assigned on the spot,
minimal direction is given and we shoot as usual, with
critique following. This exercise closely approximates the
actual working conditions in the industry.

Standard Scene Work
Students in this class are pushed to constantly experiment
to do it "differently" - to stretch the scene, to look at it with
a fresh eye and to avoid saying no to virtually any idea.
